Keeping it simple! Anne Hathaway, Naomi Watts and Jennifer Lawrence stick to classic black and white at Oscars luncheon

A closet staple: Anne Hathaway, left, and Naomi Watts, right, both wore black cocktail dresses for the 85th Academy Awards nominees luncheon in Beverly Hills on Monday

As if they had emerged from an old movie on the silver screen, Anne Hathaway, Naomi Watts and Jennifer Lawrence embodied the Golden Age of Hollywood in monochromatic black and white.
The actresses were attending the 85th Academy Awards nominees luncheon in Beverly Hills, where they walked the red carpet on Monday.
The women, nominated in the best leading and supporting actress categories, are preparing for the biggest night of awards season, when the Oscars get underway on February 24.

A bit more dramatic: Jennifer Lawrence wore a white tea dress for the occasion, and contouring nude make-up

Anne, nominated for best supporting actress for her role in Les Miserables, looked chic in a black sheath dress with draping detail from the hip. Her cropped hair was swept to the side and lips grazed with a kiss of rose lipstick that accentuated her infectious smile.

The actress wore minimal jewellery - her wedding ring and a jewelled bracelet on the opposite wrist - and completed the look with black stiletto sandals.
Naomi also went for classic black, her dress embellished with a floral pattern that extended in interesting detail over her collar and upper arms.
Her blonde locks were coiffed in large curls around her shoulders and make-up perfectly dusted for daytime.

The Impossible star, nominated for best leading actress for her role in the drama, completed her look with pewter pointed-toe kitten heels with black and metallic detail.
Jennifer went for a more daring daytime look, her nude make-up contoured to highlight her cheekbones with dramatic effect.
The actress, nominated in the best supporting category for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, wore a contrasting white tea dress paired with black pumps and a cobalt blue cocktail ring.

Hey there, Oscar: Anne was flanked by a pair of life-sized statues

The 22-year-old star wore her honey blonde hair swept back and down over one shoulder, with several textured pieces falling to the side of her face.
About 160 nominees attended the lunch, an annual rite leading up to Hollywood's big night.
The producers of the Academy Awards meanwhile announced good news for those watching at home as they spoke at the luncheon honouring this year's Oscar nominees: they're trying to cut out the boring parts.
Oscar producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron say they watched 40 years of past ceremonies to finds ways to keep the show moving at a brisk pace.
They say they're looking to nip and tuck what they call little 'pregnant pauses' that can turn the show into a marathon.

Zadan and Meron said on Monday they hope to make room for more fun in the show by squeezing out less-exciting moments.
The 85th annual Oscars airs live February 24 on ABC.
