It's begun: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge look fascinated as they point at and watch the Red Arrows

It is an historic event that will be watched all over the world and of course all eyes were on the Royal family as they arrived.
The Olympics Opening Ceremony was not only attended by Price Charles and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall, but of course the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as well.
As the young royal couple took their place inside the Olympic Stadium they were seen looking rather fascinated as they watched the Red Arrows fly over ahead.

What a view! The Royal couple appeared to be enjoying the fantastic display at the Olympic stadium

The pair were spotted pointing in the sky as they flew over ahead and appeared to be in good spirits and just as excited about the start of the games as everyone else.
The Red Arrows flew overhead from east to west, leaving a spectacular trail of red, white and blue vapour.
The sound of the jet's engines was dwarfed by the cheers of the baying crowd below, but it wasn't the first time that a London crowd has been treated to an appearance from them this year as last month they flew past the crowd at Buckingham Palace to mark the Queen's Jubilee.

Colour coordinated: Kate looked stunning in a light blue Christopher Kane coat dress while Prince William looked smart in a navy blue suit

The pretty brunette represented the country in an ice blue coat dress by cutting-edge Scottish fashion designer Christopher Kane and wore her hair down in a wavy style.
Meanwhile, Prince William looked smart in a navy blue suit, white shirt and a pink tie.
Kate was seen having a short chat with London Mayor Boris Johnson before the ceremony began and was smiling broadly as she did so.

Someone else who was having a good time was the Duchess of Cornwall who was seen sharing a private joke with Prince Charles as they took their seats.
Camilla looked elegant in a cream dress and matching jacket which she teamed with a set of pearls and a Union Jack heart-shaped badge.
Prince Charles stuck to the same colour as his eldest son and wore a navy blue suit, a white shirt and a blue patterned tie.

It was also Prince Harry's colour of choice who was seen sticking fairly close to his sister-in-law as she mingled with those nearby.
Prince Harry was earlier seen greeting Princess Anne and her husband Timothy Laurence before the ceremony started.
Of course, the Queen also arrived and did so rather spectacularly as she made an entrance by dropping in from a helicopter by parachute accompanied by James Bond.
